India’s talented youngster Shubman Gill shot into prominence after he became the youngest batsman to score an ODI double century. It was his maiden ODI double ton and it is one special inning that he will always remember and relish.

The 23-year-old batter absolutely dominated New Zealand’s bowling attack as he dealt the challenges in the form of maximums and boundaries. In the process, he scored a scintillating 208 off 149 including 19 fours and 9 sixes to his credit.

The fans who turned up in numbers at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad were absolutely delighted with the batting performance of Shubman Gill who made waves with the bat against the Black Caps. India got the better of New Zealand by 12 runs in the first ODI and took the first lead in the series.

The youngster was adjudged the man of the match for his terrific batting performance. After the game, Shubman Gill spoke about the importance of Yuvraj Singh’s backing which helped him bring the best out of himself.

The right-handed batter further added that Yuvraj Singh is like a brother and mentor to him. Speaking on the same lines, he said that Yuvraj Singh helped and guided him a lot during the lockdown phase.

Earlier, during the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka, he scored a brilliant century. He scored 116 off 97 balls with the help of 14 boundaries and 2 hits over the fence at Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram as India inflicted a 3-0 whitewash on Sri Lanka.

Shubman Gill will be looking forward to delivering the goods with the bat even in the second ODI against the Black Caps to help Team India win the series. The second ODI between Team India and the New Zealand national cricket team will begin on January 21 (Saturday) at Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, Raipur.
