The former RCB coach Daniel Vettori doesn’t think that RCB will appoint Virat Kohli their captain once again for the upcoming season of the IPL. Kohli had stepped down as RCB captain after last season citing workload management, but RCB hasn’t announced their new captain yet.

However, the situation at the time Virat Kohli had stepped down as RCB captain was very different from the current situation. Kohli was still the captain of India’s ODI and test team at that point of time and he intended to continue being the captain in international cricket.

But, the way things transpired after that changed the whole scenario. Kohli was first sacked as the ODI captain of India as BCCI wanted the same captain for both ODI and T20I cricket, and then Kohli himself resigned as India’s Test captain as well after the test series against South Africa.

So, Kohli, at the moment, is not really captaining at the international level anymore and his leadership workload is not there, which is why there are murmurs if RCB will consider appointing Kohli their captain again.

Daniel Vettori doesn’t think RCB will give Virat Kohli the captaincy role again

Daniel Vettori, however, doesn’t think so. According to Vettori, it doesn’t go like that in professional cricket or in any kind of professional sport that a captain is immediately brought back to the leadership role, after he has said that he wants to move on from the leadership.

Kohli wanted to play for RCB just as a player, and he clearly said that he wanted the team to have a different leader in the time of transition. From that point of view, RCB might appoint Glenn Maxwell their new captain and keep him in the leadership position for the next 3 years.

However, Vettori also believes that in the absence of Maxwell for the first few games, Faf du Plessis might lead RCB and Kohli still remains in the leadership group.
