The strength and core of the Indian cricket team have never been in doubt. However, one question that frequently arises in our mind guess what? Why are there so many injuries in the Indian cricket team and what literally can be done regarding this in the first place?

Players who represent the Indian cricket team are usually fit as a fiddle but the injury concerns in the team have long been a serious bone of contention. The Indian cricket team already missed some top players for the main events, which hindered India’s chances of cracking the code.

India badly missed the services of Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah in the ICC Men’s Twenty20 World Cup 2022 in Australia owing to injuries. Although there is a proper structure and protocols in place, we have still been witnessing many injuries.

Furthermore, it also questions the team management’s professionalism and whether the right people should be hired so that there is proper functioning of the system and that we wouldn’t witness many injuries.

India’s 2011 World Cup trainer Ramji Srinivasan gives his views on the recent string of injuries

Amidst the increasing cases of unnecessary or untimely injuries in the existing Indian cricket team, India’s 2011 World Cup trainer by the name of Ramji Srinivasan opened up his views on the ongoing injury debate.

For the record, Ramji Srinivasan plied his trade as India’s strength and conditioning coach during the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2011 and took complete care of the fitness of senior Indian players including the likes of MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and other players.

Ramji further added that ten years ago, players including MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, and Zaheer Khan were regular features across all three formats of the game. He further explained the aforementioned names were clever enough to know what really turned out the best for them.

Last but not least, he echoed that the fitness of the concerned players spicing it up as regular starters across three formats needs to be given the utmost priority and looked after carefully.

“This question has been lingering around for a lot of time. Picking specialists for each format is a call that has to be taken by the selectors and the coaching staff. But if the selectors decide that a player is going to feature in all three formats, it is the duty of the strength and conditioning coach to keep the player fit. There is nothing wrong in players featuring in all three formats. Don’t forget, 10 years ago, you had MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan featuring in all three formats. Players understood their body and were smart enough to know what worked for them. And they shouldn’t follow what an S&C says blindly. They should ask questions,” Srinivasan wrote for The Indian Express.
