Dinesh Karthik was a part of the Indian squad that played in the 2019 Cricket World Cup. In fact, he even played in the semifinal match against the New Zealand cricket team. However, now, Karthik is not a part of the Indian squad in any formats. He has been working as a commentator for Sky Sports. Recently, he did commentary in India’s matches against New Zealand and England.
Karthik seems to be doing well as a cricket expert. ICC announced the schedule for the T20 World Cup 2021 recently. Speaking on ICC’s digital show before the announcement, Karthik picked his finalists for the event.
The Kolkata Knight Riders star believed inaugural champions India and defending champions West Indies will contest the summit clash.
“I would love to see India and West Indies final. I think my second favourite team after India would definitely be West Indies, only for the way they play cricket. I think this format, they love it, it brings out their best in them and I would love to see West Indies in the final. Whether I want them to win it that will depend on the opponent that day,” Dinesh Karthik said during ICC’s digital show.
Prediction of Dinesh Karthik might prove to be correct
India and West Indies are two of the best teams in the T20I format. The West Indies are the only team to have won the event twice, while India reached the semifinals in 2016 and finished runners-up in 2014. The Men in Blue had won the first tournament back in 2007.
Many fans believe India and West Indies can top their respective groups. Last year, the Windies topped their group. However, India came second. As a result, they battled in semifinals. The Men in Maroon won the match. If they top the groups this year in Super 12, they can avoid meeting in semifinals and then set up a big final.
