Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard are two of the best West Indian T20 cricketers of all time. They have made a name for themselves with their solid performances in the shortest format of the game. In the ICC T20 World Cup last year, Chris Gayle played under the captaincy of Kieron Pollard for the West Indies team.

After the T20 World Cup, West Indies legend Dwayne Bravo announced his retirement from all formats of international cricket. Kieron Pollard has followed his footsteps as well.

Interestingly, Pollard announced his decision to retire while he was still the captain of the West Indies limited-overs squads. Here’s what Pollard announced on his Instagram page yesterday:

“Hi all, after careful deliberation, I have decided to retire from international cricket. It was a dream of mine to play for West Indies since I was a 10-year-old boy.”

Congratulations on your international career: Chris Gayle sends a message to Kieron Pollard after his retirement

Kieron Pollard’s decision to retire from all formats of international cricket took everyone aback especially because the West Indies team is scheduled to participate in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and host the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Chris Gayle was surprised with the timing of Pollard’s retirement as well. Here’s what the Universe Boss wrote on Twitter:

While Chris Gayle congratulated Kieron Pollard for the success he achieved in his international career, he also made it clear that he is yet to retire from international cricket. It seems like Gayle is aiming to play some more matches for the West Indies cricket team.

Gayle is working hard on his fitness, and it should not be a surprise if he plays one or two series for West Indies.
