BCCI Could Pull Off Masterstroke To Get Both Sony And Star As Broadcasters

The BCCI is soon going to conduct an e-auction for the broadcasting rights of the Indian Premier League(IPL). Star Sports bought the rights for five years in 2018, and that contract will expire after the 2022 season. So, the BCCI will be issuing the ITT soon.

According to the reports, the IPL organizers are thinking about having a unique way of broadcasting the matches via multiple channels. So far, the IPL has only been with two networks – Sony and Star. From 2008 to 2017, the Sony channels telecasted the IPL matches.

Midway through that deal, StarSports.com joined in as the official live-streaming partner for the IPL matches in India. When Sony’s contract ended, Star beat them in an auction and took over the TV rights of the IPL as well.

Now, apart from Sony and Star, Amazon Prime Video and Viacom18 have also shown interest in buying the IPL rights. Fans expect a massive revenue deal for the BCCI, but the board is thinking about having a never-seen-before thing in the IPL, and that it to have multiple broadcasters. Here’s what sources told Cricbuzz:

“The new media rights tender for the IPL could have a compendium of bundles that would ensure the involvement of multiple broadcasters. That is apparently a suggestion given to the BCCI.”

BCCI has decided to start IPL 2022 from March 26 onwards

The window for IPL matches is going to increase in the coming years. Two new teams have joined the league, and the number of matches have gone up to 74. Also, the IPL season will last for more than 2 months.

It will start on March 26 and end on May 29. With the IPL getting bigger and the viewership also increasing gradually, the BCCI will be looking forward to getting a massive deal from the upcoming broadcasting and live-streaming rights auction.
