2 Indian players lucky to be selected for Asia Cup 2023

BCCI named a 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup. While the core of the squad carried no surprises, there were plenty of debatable choices when it came to the backups. This discussion will carry on until the end of the Asia Cup. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two Indians lucky to be selected for Asia Cup 2023.

1) Suryakumar Yadav

SKY had a decent start to his ODI career but it tapered off soon after. Since his bright beginning, SKY has recorded plenty of single-digit scorers and has also not been able to get a big innings, till now. While he has been top-notch in T20Is, it may not necessarily translate into good ODI form.

Moreover, SKY is a one-dimensional player. Cricketers such as Sanju Samson would have offered keeping duties, something that might have been useful if KL Rahul loses his fitness. Hence, in this regard, SKY can consider himself lucky to have found a spot in the Asia Cup and possibly even for the 2023 ODI World Cup.

2) Tilak Varma

Tilak Varma is one of the Indians lucky to be selected for the Asia Cup 2023. The conversation for Tilak’s inclusion started after he did well against West Indies in T20Is. However, in Ireland, he has been poor. Yet, despite not making his ODI debut yet, Tilak has earned a spot in the Indian ODI squad.

This is a big surprise especially because Sanju Samson was also available. Indian Team has made use of Sanju in recent times. He is also a wicketkeeper and quite experienced. Barring being a left-hander and a part-time spin option, Tilak does not have many attributes that might have put him ahead of Sanju. Nevertheless, Tilak can still be an impact player. However, for now, he might consider himself lucky to have got a chance.
