The former Pakistani pacer Shoaib Akhtar has commented on the viral photo of empty seats at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for the third ODI between Australia and England, calling it “food for thought,” and questioning the scheduling of the ODI series so soon after England’s T20 World Cup victory. To further emphasize his argument, he said that around 92,000 people had watched the T20 World Cup match between India and Pakistan at the same site a month before.

“This is a food for thought. An amazing world cup JUST finished. A pushed series champions England had to play in 3 days time. But here’s the interest of crowd in an Eng vs Aus match. One month after Pak vs Ind here attended by 92,000 people,” tweeted Akhtar.

Despite Australia’s 3-0 sweep of England in the one-day international series, few fans showed out to see the games.

Many cricket fans have begun to doubt if the bilateral cricket series will survive the ongoing scheduling discussion.

England’s skipper Jos Buttler said as much after the ODI series against Australia ended: the tournament did not serve as advertising for the survival of bilateral cricket.

One of the most exciting games in Twenty20 history took place on October 23, 2022, when India edged out Pakistan in a nail-biter in the Twenty20 World Cup 2022. India beat Pakistan in their first Twenty20 World Cup encounter, rescuing a certain loss and setting the Melbourne Cricket Ground ablaze in the process. India triumphed by 4 wickets thanks to a brilliant performance from chase specialist Virat Kohli.

The Indian team, thanks to a heroic effort from the former Indian captain, won a match that had appeared hopeless just moments earlier. Kohli scored 82 not out off 53 balls, bringing India back from a 31/4 after 6.1 overs and allowing them to successfully chase down 160. Hardik Pandya, who held one end in the chase, was also a big help to him. Kohli correctly proclaimed after the game that his knock was the best he had played in 34 years.
