As the former Indian captain Virat Kohli took the field earlier today in Mohali, he was given a guard of honour by the Indian team for becoming only the 12th player in the history of Indian cricket to get to the milestone of playing 100 test matches for the country.

India posted a huge score on the board batting first in the ongoing test against Sri Lanka, courtesy a brilliant hundred by Ravindra Jadeja and a stroke filled 96 by Rishabh Pant. After the declaration, when the Indian team came out to bowl, Virat Kohli stepped onto the ground before anyone else. However, he was sent back by the captain Rohit Sharma and the wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, as the team had planned to give Virat a guard of honour.

As Virat was being given a guard of honour, he had a big smile on his face as he came through the lane create by his teammates amid a round of big applause. In the current Indian set up which is playing against Sri Lanka, Virat is the only player who has played 100 test matches.

The crowd at the PCA stadium, Mohali was allowed specifically for Virat’s 100th game. Initially, it was decided that the game would be played behind closed doors because of COVID and also because of the assembly elections in Punjab, but later the entry was allowed as Virat fans wanted to see the former Indian captain bat in his landmark test match.

The crowd turned up on first day and although Virat Kohli couldn’t play a big knock, he did bat for a couple of hours and played some delightful shots on his way to 45. Virat also completed his 8000 runs in test match cricket during that knock.
