Shreyas Iyer smashes 80 runs in 76 balls against New Zealand in the first ODI
In what was another staggering innings in one-day internationals, Shreyas Iyer smashed 80 runs in 76 balls and helped his side post a total of over 300 runs on the board against New Zealand in the first ODI.
Asked to bat first, India had an exceptional start as Shikhar Dhawan (72) and Shubman Gill (50) played well for their 124 runs opening partnership. After that, it was Shreyas Iyer’s show as he held one end and kept ticking the scoreboard.
While wickets kept tumbling at one end, Iyer batted responsibly and made sure that he held one end and kept the run rate in check. He stitched a crucial 94-run partnership with Sanju Samson (36). But once the keeper batter was gone, he took bowlers to the cleaners and accelerated his innings.
Iyer scored 80 runs in 76 balls and his innings included 4 sixes and 4 fours. He batted with a strike rate of 105.26 and helped post a total of 306 runs on the board. Notably, the right-hander has 5 fifties and a century in his last 8 ODI innings.

Ideally he should be our No.4 in #CWC23 and Pant at 5 but KL will get preference for VC quota.
