Former New Zealand and Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming has come out in favour of Indian batter KL Rahul despite going through poor form in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. He urged team management to show him support and give him confidence.
KL Rahul’s poor form continues in T20 World Cup 2022
KL Rahul has been one of the biggest concerns for Team India in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022. The opener has failed consistently and it is one of the main reasons behind the side not getting good starts in batting.
Coming into the tournament, there were a lot of expectations from him to perform and give India a flying start. Many fans and pundits even predicted that he might end the tournament as the leading run-scorer.
Rahul Dravid said "Me & Rohit dont have absolutely no doubt who will open, I know how much impact KL Rahul can make".

But this didn’t turn out as he failed in all three games that India has played so far in the tournament. Rahul has looked clueless in the middle and has been struggling with time. Amid his poor run in the tournament, many fans and pundits have raised calls to drop him from the team and play Rishabh Pant in his place as an opener.
So far in three games, Rahul has Scored only 22 runs and he is putting his side under a lot of pressure. Going into the tournament further, India will now need Rahul to step up and play to his potential. But if he continues to perform like this, this might hamper India’s chances of winning a tournament.
Stephen Fleming comes out in support of KL Rahul
While there have been calls to drop Rahul from the Indian playing XI, former New Zealand cricketer Stephen Fleming had come out in support of KL Rahul.
He said that he wants the batter to play as freely as he can and team management should give him confidence that he’s a key player and they support him.
“Play however you want, but I’m not dropping you. You’re a key player, and I support you.”
KL Rahul will be next seen in action when India will take on Bangladesh on Wednesday (2nd November) in Adelaide.
