Jasprit Bumrah, the premium fast bowler for Team India in all formats, did not make it to the squad for the ICC World T20 2022 due to an injury. Bumrah suffered an injury post the ODI series against England. Hence, he missed the Asia Cup 2022 in Dubai as well. However, he recovered and was brought back to playing XI for the T20I series against Australia. However, after playing two games he complained of back spasms.

The team management decided to rest him for the upcoming series against South Africa, keeping in mind his importance in the T20 World Cup 2022. It was by then clear that Bumrah will not be able to make it to the squad for the T20 World Cup. However, the fans and team management still had a glimmer of hope that he might make it to the squad. However, it finally became clear, that it was not to be.

Mohammed Shami was the man who replaced him for the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. On Tuesday, India announced their squad for the series against New Zealand and Bangladesh, Bumrah was not part of any of the squads. The chief selector, Chetan Sharma, clarified that he will be part of the Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in 2023.

He also revealed that they brought back Bumrah too soon. They had the World Cup in mind, and they paid the price for it. So, they don’t want to take a risk with him by including him in the series against Bangladesh. He also said that the NCA is taking care of him and he will be ready to play with full match fitness soon.

Chetan Sharma said: “We hurried up Bumrah a bit, we tried as the World Cup was coming and see what happened as we are without Bumrah now – for Bangladesh series, we are not hurrying him up, we are cautious – NCA is looking at him”.
