3 players who were overpaid in IPL 2025 Retentions

Over-paying and Under-paying is common in the IPL. The dynamics are such. In the recently announced list of retained players, as well, you could pick out a few players who might have been given a salary that is a bit high. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three players who were overpaid in IPL 2025 Retentions.

1) Kuldeep Yadav – INR 13.25 Cr

Kuldeep Yadav’s salary was close to just INR 2 Cr in the last cycle. Hence, that is a big rise for him. Since DC has already retained a spinner in Axar Patel, spending big again on another spinner may have not been a wise call.

The franchise could have waited and made and move in the auctions. Also, under pressure, Kuldeep Yadav usually loses his momentum. That could harm the side. With a heavy price-tag, the pressure will be on him to perform.

2) Ravi Bishnoi – INR 11 Cr

Ravi Bishnoi is one of the players who were overpaid in IPL 2025 Retentions. In the last few months, Ravi Bishnoi has not been at his best. Even in IPL 2024, he was not a top performer for his side. LSG could have got him for a lesser fee at the auctions.

Bishnoi has also lost his spot in the Indian T20 playing XI. There is pressure on him and the value at the auctions could have been less. That said, LSG has shown great trust in him and hence, the player will be motivated to do well.

3) Dhruv Jurel – INR 14 Cr

It needs to be noted that Dhruv Jurel is yet to firmly establish himself in the Indian Premier League.  He has provided a few solid cameos but that is that. In IPL 2024, he was not exactly great either. Hence, for a player who was earning INR 20 Lakhs, providing INR 14 Cr could be a big risk.

For Rajasthan Royals, as well, Dhruv was not a priority. They already had a wicket-keeper and a good Indian middle-order batter in Riyan Parag. Therefore, the price just did not make sense for many.
