When RCB picked up Faf du Plessis a few years ago, many were not happy with the decision. However, it turned out to be a top call as Faf batted and captained the squad well. With him turning 40 in a few months, it is unlikely that RCB will retain him. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three realistic options RCB can target to replace Faf du Plessis.
1) Jonny Bairstow
Jonny Bairstow did not have a great run in IPL 2024 although he scored a century. He did not play in IPL 2023. Hence, the stocks have come down for the Englishman.
RCB can make use of this and sign the cricketer. At Chinnaswamy, he can provide the blockbuster starts for the franchise. He can also keep wickets, which would further help the franchise balance the squad.
2) Mitchell Marsh
Mitchell Marsh is one of the realistic options RCB can target to replace Faf du Plessis. One under-rated option RCB could try out is Mitchell Marsh, who is unlikely to be retained by Delhi Capitals.
He can also take the game away from the opposition within a few overs. Plus, he can bowl medium-pace and also offer captaincy, if needed. Hence, he is on this list. Of course, his injury issues will pose a risk.
3) Kane Williamson
Kane Williamson has not been doing well in the T20 format in the last few months. However, he is one player who has the class and mindset to change his game and get back to his best. Probably, opening the batting could be the way forward for the Kiwi legend.
If he is set to replicate the exact role of Faf du Plessis, Kane would be a decent fit. With Virat Kohli at the other end, Kane would surely find a suitable ally.
