After a franchise releases a player, it is very rare for them to go back for these cricketers. Yes, they would try to buy them back at a lower price but they might not be ready to pay more. However, the IPL auction dynamics are such that the teams would be put in such a situation. On that note, here, we take a look at two players for whom franchises were ready to pay more in IPL 2024 auctions despite releasing them.
1) Yash Dayal – Gujarat Titans
With most of the Indian pacers already taken, when Yash Dayal went under the hammer, he was in demand. Although he did not have a great year last season, he has proven himself and is still a reliable bowler. Gujarat Titans and RCB were involved in the war and surprisingly, GT was ready to pay more than what they had paid him for IPL 2023.
However, RCB was desperate as they needed a left-arm Indian pacer to share the new ball with Mohammed Siraj. Hence, the Bengaluru-based team hired the cricketer. GT eventually signed Sushant Mishra for this role.
2) Rilee Rossouw – Delhi Capitals
Rilee Rossouw is one of the players for whom franchises were ready to pay more in IPL 2024 auctions despite releasing them. He was unsold in the first round of auctions. In the accelerated round, he earned a bid of INR 8 Cr. This, in itself, is a big surprise.
Rossouw was with DC for a lower salary in IPL 2023. He also played a few decent knocks. Yet, he was released by the franchise. DC was not at all interested in him when his name came up first. However, in the end, they were desperate for him. They needed a left-handed middle-order batter and Rilee was one of the best. Punjab Kings also had the same requirement. Eventually, PBKS signed the cricketer.
