Many thought that the 2023 ODI World Cup game between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh would be a dead rubber. With Bangladesh already eliminated and Sri Lanka not having a great chance, the match did not trigger any interest. However, one incident was enough to bring the attention of the entire cricket community. The fact that this incident happened between legends Angelo Mathews and Shakib Al Hasan further increased the relevance of this event. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two batters who got out because of less-known cricket rules in the year 2023.

1) Angelo Mathews – Timed out

At the fall of the Sri Lankan wicket, it was the experienced Angelo Mathews who had to come out to the crease. The all-rounder did take some time to reach the crease. However, he did reach on time. Unfortunately, just when he was about to take the crease and bat, he realized that the strap of his helmet was torn. Therefore, he had to request his teammate to get a new helmet.

By then, the time had crossed since the stipulated time of a new batter being ready at the crease. The Bangladesh skipper appealed to the umpires. The umpires had no option but to go by the rules. Hence, Angelo had to be given out for being late to the crease. He became the first in the history of the game to get out in this way.

2) Fanyan Mughal – Hitting the ball twice

The cricketer from Malta was out for yet another interesting reason. Not many are aware that hitting the ball twice calls for a wicket.

The 37-year-old wicket-keeper batter did that against Romania in the 2023 Men’s Continental Cup. Therefore, the player was declared out. He is the only one, so far, to get out in this way at the international level.
