IPL 2023 will start this Friday in Ahmedabad. It will be one of the biggest Indian Premier League seasons of all time, with 10 teams competing against each other in a home and away based format to win the coveted championship.
Over the last 15 years, South African players have been an integral part of the IPL. Players like AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel and Hashim Amla have wowed the fans with their talents. Some of the big names from South Africa will participate in IPL 2023 as well, but a few of the Proteas stars remained unsold at the auction that happened late last year.
The unsold players should not give up totally as they can return to the league as replacements. Here’s a list of five such South African players.
1. Wayne Parnell can return to IPL 2023 as a replacement
Wayne Parnell recently led the Pretoria Capitals to the final of SA20. He is a left-arm pace bowler, who can whack big shots with the willow as well. Parnell can be a great addition to any franchise.
2. Rassie van der Dussen can return to IPL 2023 as a replacement
Rassie van der Dussen made his debut for Rajasthan Royals last season but could not impress much. Some fans felt that RR did not use him well. He remained unsold this season but can return as a replacement.
3. Gerald Coetzee
Gerald Coetzee had a memorable outing with the Johannesburg Super Kings in SA20 2023. Some reports have surfaced online claiming that the Mumbai Indians will likely sign Coetzee as a replacement for Jhye Richardson.
4. Corbin Bosch
Corbin Bosch is a rising star of South African cricket. He is an all-rounder who remained unsold at the auction, but the IPL teams can think of signing him as a replacement.
5. Prenalen Subrayen
Prenalen Subrayen is another all-rounder from South Africa who did not earn an IPL deal. Subrayen is a talented name, who can achieve success in Indian conditions, making him a contender to join the league as a replacement.
