South Africa will be one of the teams that will be expected to do well in the ODI World Cup 2023. If the Proteas can do good under pressure, they have the skills to make it to the semi-finals and the finals. The team currently boasts of a few good youngsters while there is also the presence of some experienced campaigners. In fact, a few of them have played in the 2015 WC and are likely to represent the Proteas in the upcoming mega-event, too. Here, we look at four players who played for South Africa in Cricket World Cup 2015 and might also play in the 2023 WC.
1) Quinton de Kock
The wicket-keeper batter will yet again be one of the most important players for the team. He would have a crucial role in opening the innings as he is one player who has a lot of experience playing in India.
Usually, the openers are expected to do the bulk of scoring in big events like the World Cup. When it comes to South Africa, the onus will be on QDK to do the job for the team. He is anyways equipped with the right skill sets and experience to be a good option for South Africa in the event.
2) David Miller
David Miller is one of the players who played for South Africa in the Cricket World Cup 2015 and might also play in the 2023 WC. In 8 games at the 2015 WC, Miller scored 324 runs at an average of 65 and a strike rate close to 140.
He was at his peak then and South Africa will hope that Miller is in the same form. The southpaw has been in good form in recent months, especially since the start of the last IPL. Finishers have an important role in India and therefore, Miller will be of paramount importance to South Africa’s chances.
3) Wayne Parnell
Most of the teams now have a top-order that is vulnerable to left-arm pacers. South Africa has two good options in the form of Wayne Parnell and Marco Jansen. Parnell also played in the 2015 ODI World Cup.
Parnell is an experienced player. He would add a lot of value, sharing the new ball with the likes of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje. He has had a few injury issues recently but none of them seems long-term. Parnell can also contribute in the lower order with the bat. This would be another advantage to have him in the squad.
4) Rilee Rossouw
Rilee Rossouw is also one of the players who played for South Africa in the Cricket World Cup 2015 and might also play in the 2023 WC. He was a youngster back then and after not getting a lot of chances, he made the move to England. However, he is back in South Africa and is in good form.
Rossouw is a good option to have in the middle order. If he gets stuck at the crease, he could become destructive to the opposition. He is also decent against spinners, which would help the Proteas in conditions like in India.
