September 28th will be the deadline for teams to name any changes in the already announced World Cup squads. Most teams are currently involved in an ODI assignment. Hence, there could arise some debates based on form and fitness. A few players could unfortunately miss out on the final squad. On that note, here, we take a look at four players initially selected for the ODI World Cup but could be dropped before the final deadline.

1) Josh Inglis (Australia)

Marnus Labuschagne is in great touch right now. He was initially dropped from the ODI World Cup squad but if his current form continues, he is well on his way to travelling to India. However, it might be Josh Inglis who could be the victim in this regard.

Present in the squad as a backup keeper, he is dropable when it comes to the overall squad. The others add balance to the setup and hence, Marnus cannot replace them. Australia can anyways use Travis Head, if needed, as a backup keeper.

2) David Willey (England)

David Willey is one of the players initially selected for the ODI World Cup but could be dropped before the final deadline. If Harry Brook has to join the World Cup squad, it could be one of the pacers who have to give way.

Sam Curran and Reece Topley are the left-arm pacers in the team. England might not afford more than three pacers in the playing XI. Hence, with Chris Woakes and Mark Wood present, both Topley and Willey could spend some time on the bench. This means that if England changes the combination, one of them will have to be dropped. It could be Willey, considering Topley offers more penetration in the powerplay.

3) Jason Roy (England)

Jason Roy is currently sitting out due to an injury. It is the in-form Harry Brook who is opening the batting in his place. Brook is yet to make a statement performance in this role. However, if he does that, it could be curtains for Roy in the English setup for the World Cup.

The opener has been walking on a slippery road for a while now. His form has been inconsistent. Now, if someone like Brook steps up, it could lead to a lot of difficulties for him. The likes of Dawid Malan and Joe Root cannot be dropped and hence, Roy could have to be sacrificed.

4) Sisanda Magala (South Africa)

Sisanda Magala is also one of the players initially selected for the ODI World Cup but could be dropped before the final deadline. In a surprising move, South Africa selected the 32-year-old pacer for the World Cup. For context, it needs to be noted that the Proteas already have Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee, Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi as the pacers.

The player seems to be surplus to requirements. South Africa needs a reliable all-rounder and maybe even a batter. Hence, based on how it goes in the next weeks, it may not be a surprise if Magala misses out on the final squad.
