As per reports, IPL 2025 is all set to have a Mega Auction before the season. Usually, in a Mega Auction, the prices of the players go down. It is only during the Mini Auction when there is more demand for specific players that the salaries of cricketers get inflated. In this regard, a few players could suffer a heavy loss in the upcoming season. They have a good salary right now but may see a drop of more than 50%. Of course, the major reason for this is their form in IPL 2024, which has been poor. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of four players currently earning more than 10 Cr who could earn less than 5 Cr in IPL 2025.
1) Glenn Maxwell
If not for his poor run in IPL 2024, Glenn Maxwell would have surely been one of the retentions for RCB before the Mega Auction. However, now, there are other factors such as his form, confidence and also his age. With players like Will Jacks and Cameron Green also in the mix, Maxwell might not be retained by RCB.
The impact of his poor run in IPL 2024 could have its implications in the auctions, as well. Maxwell is not popular for his consistency in IPL. Now that he has produced yet another poor season, there may not be many takers for him at the auctions. This could result in him going for a cheap fee.
2) Daryl Mitchell
Daryl Mitchell is one of the players currently earning more than 10 Cr who could earn less than 5 Cr in IPL 2025. There were a lot of expectations from the Kiwi before the season started. Considering the form that he was in, many expected him to do well for CSK, which was actually a franchise that suited his strengths.
However, he is yet to get going. Recently, he was dropped from the playing XI, as well. In the past, as well, Daryl did not do well in the IPL. Hence, his populary has now come down. While there would still be takers for him as an experienced middle order batter, his salary may not cross INR 5 Cr in the IPl 2025 Auctions.
3) Alzarri Joseph
In the first place, it was a surprise that Joseph actually got a bid more than INR 10 Cr at the auctions. That was down to the supply and demand.
Nevertheless, since his current form is not good, not many teams will spend more on him in the coming seasons. Hence, he is on this list.
4) Mitchell Starc
Mitchell Starc is also one of the players currently earning more than 10 Cr who could earn less than 5 Cr in IPL 2025. Firstly, after this season, it is not sure if Starc will make himself available for IPL 2025. Assuming that he does, it may not be a good outing for him at the auctions, unlike the one he had recently.
Starc has been very poor in IPL 2024. He is not picking wickets regularly in the powerplay and has leaked runs in the death overs. For a player with a huge salary, this is not expected. Hence, he could get a bid worth as much as five times less than what he is currently earning at KKR.
