While experience is important, it is also necessary that the Head Coaches bring the relevant T20 experience to the side. Hence, at most times, the age of a Head Coach should not be a concern. In fact, in football, we have seen managers of big teams who are actually younger than some of the players in the squad. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of the three youngest Head coaches in IPL 2024.
3) Kumar Sangakkara (Rajasthan Royals) – October 1977
Kumar Sangakkara is the third youngest coach in the upcoming season of IPL. While he started his stint at RR as the Director of Cricket Operations, in recent seasons, he has been the Head Coach. Last year, though, he had a forgettable run as RR failed to reach the playoffs.
That said, RR has improved the squad in the IPL 2024 Auctions. Hence, he now has a good chance to go all the way and lift his first trophy as a coach.
2) Daniel Vettori (Sunrisers Hyderabad) – January 1979
Daniel Vettori is one of the youngest Head coaches in IPL 2024. Sunrisers Hyderabad recently appointed Vettori as the Head Coach of the side. In the past, he was the Head Coach of RCB for a few years. Of course, he was the youngest coach back then.
Vettori has a good squad at his disposal for the upcoming season. He has further added experience to the line-up. It needs to be seen if all of this bodes well for the franchise during the competition.
1) Ashish Nehra (Gujarat Titans) – April 1979
One of the youngest coaches to win the competition, Nehra was appointed as the Head Coach of the newly-appointed franchise Gujarat Titans. He won them the title in the first season itself.
For IPL 2024, it will be a challenge for Nehra to replace Hardik Pandya. He certainly has the players to do that. It will be interesting to see how he goes about the business.
