Australia defeated India in the finals to win the 2023 ODI World Cup. It needs to be said that the experience of some of the players on Indian pitches helped them on the final day. That said, a few of the stars could miss out on the next season of IPL. On that note, here, we take a look at three World Cup winning popular stars who could go unsold in IPL 2024 Auctions.

1) Steve Smith

Steve Smith regained his T20 form in the last season of the Big Bash League. However, this happened as an opener. It is not sure if there are many franchises that can afford this position for the Aussie superstar.

In the last auctions, Smith had not even registered. However, with him doing better in T20s now, he could try his luck in the next auctions. That said, for a player who was sold near his base price last time, it is unlikely that he would get a bid this time around.

2) Marnus Labuschagne

Marnus Labuschagne is one of the World Cup winning popular stars who could go unsold in IPL 2024 Auctions. The middle-order batter had a great role to play in the final of the tournament.

However, T20 is a format that Marnus is yet to prove himself. Hence, it would be a big surprise if someone trusted him in the IPL Auctions. Hence, he is on this list.

3) Sean Abbott

Many expected Sean Abbott to play a role in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Especially after his show against India before the tournament, the management might have been inclined to give him a few games. Naturally, that did not happen.

This could affect his prospects in the IPL. While he is a good cricketer, he is not very consistent. Also, he did not do well when he got an IPL contract before. Hence, he might go unsold this time, as well.
