IPL has announced a new retention rule before IPL 2025 Mega Auctions. If an Indian has not played an international game for more than five years now, he can be considered an uncapped cricketer. This means that the team will have to spend just INR 4 Cr to retain the services of the player. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three veteran Indians who can be retained as uncapped players under the new rule before IPL 2025.
1) MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni is surely one of the main reasons why this rule was brought back in the first place. CSK will be happy with this move as they can retain MS Dhoni for not just one more season but also a few more seasons.
However, everyone involved has to have an eye on the legacy of the cricketer. The best captain the country gas seen, getting retained as an uncapped cricketer may not be a fitting end.
2) Sandeep Sharma
Sandeep Sharma is one of the veteran Indians who can be retained as uncapped players under the new rule before IPL 2025. Considering his rise in the recent seasons, it will not be a surprise if RR actually retains him. INR 4 Cr could be a decent investment for the team.
Anyways, there are not many uncapped players in the side whom RR can really count on. Sandeep has done well and since RR has to retain an uncapped name in the six retentions, they could actually consider the player in the retention list.
3) Piyush Chawla
It has been a while since Piyush Chawla played for Team India. However, he is still playing in the IPL. In fact, he led the spin attack for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023 and did a decent job.
Piyush might not go for INR 4 Cr at the Auctions. Hence, MI will surely not consider his name when discussing their retention options.
