While teams such as RCB and MI have a solid No.4 batter, it is not the case for many other teams. A No.4 batter must be the bridge for the batting order between the first half of the inning to the second half. Hence, it is an important role. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three teams which could have a problem with the No.4 batting slot for IPL 2024.
1) Gujarat Titans
With Hardik Pandya moving out, it is a real issue for Gujarat Titans at No.4. Their top-order, at least for the first few games, would be Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha and B Sai Sudharsan.
Kane Williamson would be the choice to play at No.4. However, it is not sure if he has got the attacking gear to operate here. He is better against the pacers than the spinners. The other options such as Vijay Shankar, Shahrukh Khan and Abhinav Manohar also do not inspire confidence to become a No.4 batter.
2) Punjab Kings
Shikhar Dhawan, Prabhsimran Singh and Jonny Bairstow would form the Top-3 for the side. Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma would be needed for the side to finish the innings.
Hence, it will be interesting to see who they go for at No.4. Atharva Taide could be an option of else Sam Curran could be promoted. Overall, this position is tricky for the Kings.
3) Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals is one of the teams which could have a problem with the No.4 batting slot for IPL 2024. With Devdutt Padikkal gone, Sanju Samson will surely bat at No.3.
However, it is not sure if Riyan Parag can be trusted at No.4, especially considering his recent struggles in the IPL. Also, his game against pace is better than spin. Hence, No.4 might not be suitable for him. Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell would be better if they come in with around 8 overs of the game left.
