Ricky Ponting is available in the market after leaving Delhi Capitals. While his role is that of a Head Coach, he would also be a great appointment as a Mentor. We saw how Gautam Gambhir’s presence as a Mentor helped KKR win IPL 2024. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three teams that must target Ricky Ponting as a Mentor for IPL 2025.
1) Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR could be one of the teams that will be interested in Ricky Ponting. Having lost Gautam Gambhir as the Mentor, the team is currently in the market to replace the current Indian Head Coach.
KKR will need this appointment because Chandrakant Pandit might need help in the backroom. Ricky Ponting made his IPL debut with KKR. Therefore, there could be a homecoming for him.
2) Sunrisers Hyderabad
SRH is one of the teams that must target Ricky Ponting as a Mentor for IPL 2025. With the likes of Pat Cummins and Travis Head doing well and Australia’s assistant coach Daniel Vettori coaching the team well, SRH will want to further develop the team.
Currently being moulded around the concept of ‘Aussie mentality’, it would be a coup if SRH can get Ricky Ponting as the Head Coach. He would greatly improve the team and could make them a serial trophy-winning outfit in the coming years.
3) Punjab Kings
Punjab Kings need to bring better structure to the franchise from a cricketing perspective. Appointing Ricky Ponting for the highest role may be a good idea. Giving him the role of Mentor and asking Ricky to take care of all the related appointments could help the franchise.
PBKS needs to set a culture and that needs to come from the top. It must be a long-term vision. If someone like Ricky is available to do that, there is nothing more better for the team.
