As per reports, Kumar Sangakkara has been approached to replace Gautam Gambhir as the Mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders. Rahul Dravid is all set to replace Kumar as the Head Coach of Rajasthan Royals. Surely, if Kumar comes to KKR, he will try to bring some players from RR to KKR. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three Rajasthan Royals players Kumar Sangakkara can target if he becomes the Mentor of KKR.
1) Sandeep Sharma
Kumar Sangakkara must be given some credit for turning around the career of Sandeep Sharma. He took him as a replacement player and also turned him into a reliable all-phase bowler.
The current Indian pacers at KKR are inexperienced. In this aspect, signing Sandeep would be a good decision for the side. The likes of Vaibhav Arora could also learn from the veteran.
2) Trent Boult
Boult is one of the Rajasthan Royals players Kumar Sangakkara can target if he becomes the Mentor of KKR. It is not sure if Mitchell Starc will return to the IPL. KKR has a set template and they might want to continue with that.
Hence, signing Boult as Starc’s replacement would be perfect. RR could struggle to retain the Kiwi because they have other youngsters to retain. Boult has played for KKR before and his role will be to just emulate what Starc did in IPL 2024.
3) Dhruv Jurel
KKR might not be able to retain Phil Salt if the retentions allowed are less. It would be hard to buy him back at the auctions. Anyways, KKR must find an Indian keeper for the long-term as the availability of overseas players is always a problem.
In this regard, KKR can target Dhruv Jurel, who is unlikely to be retained by RR. He would be the ideal domestic wicket-keeper for the side. He can play in the middle-order and that is further an advantage for the side.
