Riyan Parag is reportedly in line to get selected for the Indian T20I squad for the upcoming Australia series. If Parag can continue his current form, he will stay in the team for a long time. This could be a problem for a few other cricketers whose opportunities might be reduced. On that note, here, we take a look at three players whose chances might reduce if Riyan Parag gets selected for the Indian T20I Team.
1) Sanju Samson
It is Riyan’s IPL captain Sanju Samson who could be the most affected by the all-rounder’s selection. While No.3 and No.4 will belong to Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma in current form, in the future, Ishan Kishan, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya or KL Rahul could play at No.5.
Sanju was used as a finisher in recent months. Riyan Parag is competing exactly for this role. Since he also offers right-arm off-spin, he is better suited for the balance of the side. Hence, Sanju is on this list.
2) Washington Sundar
Washington Sundar is one of the players whose chances might reduce if Riyan Parag gets selected for the Indian T20I Team. India still has not been able to have a consistent right-arm off-spinner in the setup. Sundar’s inconsistency and lack of returns with the bat is hampering his chances.
If Parag can somehow improve his bowling skills, Sundar might not get a lot of chances. Since Parag is superior with the bat, India might prefer the Assam man.
3) Rinku Singh
Rinku Singh has only recently made his debut for Team India. However, he already faces competition for the role of a finisher.
Riyan Parag is in better domestic form right now. India is surely looking at multi-dimensional cricketers and Parag is promising in this context. Hence, he has a better chance of getting a longer rope.
