On Wednesday, BCCI announced the list of players who have been given contracts for the next season. A total of 35 players are present on the list. Like with every year, this list is also devoid of some popular names. On that note, here, we take a look at three players who were unlucky to not be included in the BCCI 2024 Contract List.
1) Shreyas Iyer
It is a shock that Shreyas Iyer is not a part of the list. Not long ago, he was the vice-captain of the side and also had a blockbuster 2023 ODI World Cup.
Not playing in the Ranji Trophy has put Iyer out of contention. It needs to be seen if Iyer would be considered in the upcoming competitions for India. He is a talented cricketer and India needs him in the middle order.
2) Yuzvendra Chahal
It appears that it is the end of the road for Chahal in Team India colours. He has been removed out of the contract list, which means that his selection is doubtful for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Of course, anything can happen with IPL 2024.
Ravi Bishnoi and Kuldeep Yadav would be the preferred leg-spinners for Team India now. Chahal will be desperate to do well in IPL 2024 so that he is back in the mix for the Indian squad.
3) Umesh Yadav
Umesh Yadav is one of the players who were unlucky to not be included in the BCCI 2024 Contract List. It is due to not having played enough games which has put Umesh Yadav out of the reckoning for this list.
However, it needs to be noted that he is still very much fit and did well in the recent domestic competitions. With both Shami and Bumrah injury-prone, it is good to have an experienced name like Umesh in the backend. Hence, he is on this list.
