The squads for the upcoming Duleep Trophy was announced. Four teams will battle it out to win the trophy. Most of the Indian seniors will be a part of the event. Here, we take a look at the list of three players who were surprisingly selected for the Duleep Trophy 2024.
1) Shivam Dube
Shivam Dube did make a splash in the red-ball format when he started out. However, as he evolved through his career, he became more of a white-ball cricketer. For India, as well, he is more restricted to the T20I format. Only because Hardik Pandya was absent did he play ODIs recently.
Dube may not offer much with the bat in Tests mainly because of his technique. Therefore, it is a bit surprising to have him play in this tournament. Rather, someone like Prerak Mankad could have been a better inclusion for the tournament.
2) Rahul Chahar
Rahul Chahar is one of the players who were surprisingly selected for the Duleep Trophy 2024. It has been a while since he had a good run in the longer format of the game. Hence, it was surprising to see his name on the list.
Nevertheless, it is a good opportunity for him to show his skills in this format. If he does well, considering his age, he could still play for India in Tests.
3) Suryakumar Yadav
India did not consider SKY for ODIs. Hence, it is very unlikely that he will be in the picture when it comes to the longest format of the game. In the past, India has made the mistake of mixing squads for different formats.
Slowly, the management was correcting this. Yes, SKY would need some match practice but it is essential that he gets it in the right format. Hence, it was a bit surprising to see him in the squad.
