A few players who were a part of IPL 2008 will also feature in the upcoming season of IPL 2024. However, their fate could remain the same, at least when you consider these two seasons. They could not play a lot in 2008 and might struggle again in 2024. Here, we take a look at the list of three players who warmed the bench in IPL 2008 and might do it again in IPL 2024.
1) Manish Pandey – Kolkata Knight Riders
Manish Pandey was with Mumbai Indians in IPL 2008. Barring a couple of games, he did not get a lot of game time at MI. In the next campaign, he shifted to RCB and then, he started to build a good career.
Pandey was one of the final signings of KKR in the recent auctions. He is the backup for the batting department. Also, since his skills against spin are not great right now, he may not get to play a lot of matches in IPL 2024.
2) Swapnil Singh – Royal Challengers Bangalore
Swapnil Singh is one of the players who warmed the bench in IPL 2008 and might do it again in IPL 2024. He is an all-rounder but not many know that as a teenager, he was with Mumbai in IPL 2008. He did not play a single game.
A veteran now, RCB picked him in the recent auctions. However, Mayank Dagar will be the preferred left-arm spinner for the side. Hence, Swapnil may not play most of the games.
3) Rishi Dhawan – Punjab Kings
Rishi Dhawan was with PBKS in IPL 2008 and he is with the same side in IPL 2024. Back in 2008, he did not play in a single match.
Now that Vidwath Kaverappa has become a good powerplay bowler, Rishi Dhawan might not the preference in the playing XI. Hence, he could warm the bench.
