Share the post

India will be playing three ODIs against Sri Lanka within the next few weeks. This could be the first assignment for the new Head Coach. The series will also kick off the preparation for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. Hence, we could see a few experiments happening. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three players who could make their ODI debut in the Sri Lanka ODI Series.

1) Yashasvi Jaiswal

It is a surprise that Yashasvi Jaiswal is yet to play ODI cricket for India. This is despite him being a permanent part of both the ODI and the Test squads.

That said, with Rohit Sharma unlikely to tour Sri Lanka, Yashasvi could be Shubman Gill‘s partner at the top of the order. B Sai Sudharsan and Ruturaj Gaikwad could also be in the fray but Jaiswal is a better fit to be the opener in this series.

2) Harshit Rana

Harshit Rana is one of the players who could make their ODI debut in the Sri Lanka ODI Series. Jasprit Bumrah is unlikely to be a part of this tour. Hence, a youngster is likely to get a chance.

With Gautam Gambhir in the backroom, it would not be a surprise if Harshit gets a chance. The likes of Avesh Khan and Mukesh Kumar are ahead of him but there is potential in Harshit waiting to be tapped. This series could be the perfect debut series for him.

3) Abhishek Sharma

With the form that he is in, it would not be a surprise if Abhishek gets a chance to be India’s backup opener for this series. India might need some depth in the spin department and Abhishek serves the case here, as well.

If Virat Kohli is also not travelling to Sri Lanka, there would be an additional option needed in the team. Here is where someone like Abhishek could get a chance.
