India is set to enter a transition period after the 2023 ODI World Cup. Meanwhile, the management will look to create a strong leadership group. Rohit Sharma will not captain the team for long and hence, some candidates need to be identified. Workload management is important for cricketers and hence, some players might get to captain India in the absence of the regular skippers. Here, we take a look at the list of three players who could make their captaincy debut for India soon.

1) Suryakumar Yadav

SKY was recently the vice-captain of the Indian T20I Team. The best T20 batter in the side, the next step in his career would be to become the captain of the team.

In fact, this could happen as soon as this month. India and Australia will play five T20Is after the World Cup. Hardik Pandya is injured and the other seniors might be rested. In this regard, SKY could get a chance to become the captain of the team.

2) Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer is one of the players who could make their captaincy debut for India soon. In a few months, we could see Iyer also getting a chance to become the captain of the side. Like SKY, he was also the vice-captain for one of the games a few months ago.

Iyer already has good captaincy experience in the IPL. He has a calm head on his shoulders and has shown good composure under pressure. Hence, he is a candidate, as well.

3) Shubman Gill

Of course, Shubman Gill will surely be considered for the future captaincy position of Team India. However, for him, the grooming could start very early.

If a good opportunity comes up, it may not be a bad idea to have Gill as the skipper. He could get a feel of the role and this would help him and the team in the long run.
