As per reports, Shubman Gill is nursing a finger injury and he is doubtful for the first BGT Test at Perth. It will be a big blow for Team India because Rohit Sharma is also set to miss the game. At No.3, Gill was showing good form and having experienced playing in Australia, he could have been useful at the slot. However, India now needs to check different options for the same. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three players who could bat at No.3 if Shubman Gill misses the Perth Test.
1) Virat Kohli
When India had a similar situation against New Zealand, it was Virat Kohli who came out to bat at No.3. It is a challenge and Virat Kohli had already taken it. Hence, he could do it again.
For India, it will be best if someone with experience comes in at No.3. Virat Kohli is also under pressure but in Australia, he usually does well. Hence, the veteran Indian batter could replace Shubman Gill.
2) KL Rahul (if fit)
KL Rahul is one of the players who could bat at No.3 if Shubman Gill misses the Perth Test. It is not sure if KL Rahul is fit. If he is fit, he could be one of the players who could come in at No.3.
Abhimanyu Easwaran could open the batting and KL Rahul could play at No.3. Again, it is a different role for KL Rahul but the team man that he is, Rahul will surely try his best for the Indian Team.
3) Dhruv Jurel
Dhruv Jurel did well for India A in the recent games against Australia A. Even if not No.3, he could get a role at No.6 in the playing XI.
That said, if the No.3 role opens up, Dhruv could operate as a pure batter. He has a good technique and with good form, he could be handy at this slot.
