Team India will pay tribute to football legend Pele during the 2nd ODI at Eden Gardens
The Men in Blue are gearing up for the second ODI against Sri Lanka, which is slated to be played on January 12, Thursday at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
As reported by PTI, Team India will pay a rich tribute to football legend Pele during the 2nd ODI at Eden Gardens. The former Brazilian professional footballer, Pele once came to Eden Gardens to represent New York Cosmos Club against Mohun Bagan on September 24, 1977.
Edson Arantes do Nascimento, popularly called Pelé drew his last breath at the age of 82 on December 29, 2022. Meanwhile, the still-alive members of the then-Mohun Bagan team have also been invited to the second ODI.
Sri Lanka’s batting great Kumar Sangakkara will take part in the precious moment by ringing the bell to kick-start the game. It is a must-win game for Sri Lanka in order to stay alive in the series and it remains to be seen how they approach the must-win encounter.
Earlier, during the T20I series, they showcased great quality and composure in the must-win game against India to win the second T20I.
Since it's Kolkata, Pele is considered a respected legend and the same goes for Maradona
