KKR, the winners of IPL 2024, will hate it if BCCI allows only 3 retentions before the next season. However, as per reports, BCCI is looking ahead at this proposal. KKR will then have to release some of their good performers from the 2024 season. On that note, here, we take a look at three players KKR could forcibly release before IPL 2025 if teams are allowed only 3 retentions.
1) Venkatesh Iyer
Venkatesh Iyer would have no chance of being retained at KKR if only 3 retentions were in place. This is despite the Madhya Pradesh cricketer doing well in the last two seasons.
Ideally, he would have been a perfect retention. He is young and can further develop as a bowler. Most importantly, he is a left-hander and can bat at different slots. Hence, other teams would spend a lot on him.
2) Varun Chakaravarthy
Varun Chakaravarthy is one of the players KKR could forcibly release before IPL 2025 if teams are allowed only 3 retentions. He was retained ahead of IPL 2022 Mega Auctions. However, the dynamics may make him go to the auctions this time around.
Shreyas Iyer and Rinku Singh are non-negotiables for KKR. One of Sunil Narine or Andre Russell will also be retained. Therefore, Varun might have to be released by KKR. This will be a big loss for them because considering Varun’s attributes, it would be hard to get him back in the auctions.
3) Harshit Rana
Harshit Rana had his breakout season in IPL 2024. He is a future star and he is someone who can also deliver with the bat. Considering his age, he has to be retained.
However, as mentioned earlier, Shreyas, Rinku, Sunil and Russell are above in the pecking order. It makes it hard for Harshit to remain in the team. Therefore, the talented performer is also on this list.
