Chennai Super Kings has been hiring a lot of New Zealand cricketers in recent times. It is obvious considering the Kiwi connection involving Stephen Fleming. It is clear that Fleming will not leave the franchise for a long time. Hence, we could see CSK signing more Kiwi players in the future. At the moment, they have Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell and Mitchell Santner. On that note, here, we take a look at three New Zealand players whom CSK could target in the future.
1) Michael Bracewell
Once he gets fit, Bracewell will be a valuable commodity in the IPL. Especially for teams such as KKR and CSK, having a left-handed batter who can provide four overs of spin is a luxury.
CSK could target the player in the coming seasons. He fits the CSK philosophy and anyways, the franchise has to look for a Moeen Ali replacement.
2) Kane Williamson
Kane Williamson has been long admired by the fans of CSK. Yes, he is currently at Gujarat Titans but if there is a mega-auction, he is unlikely to be retained.
If Kane is available in the market, CSK could be desperate for the player, who is now back to form. He would be a solid No.3 while also giving a proper leadership option.
3) Matt Henry
Matt Henry is one of the New Zealand players whom CSK could target in the future. A few seasons ago, CSK signed Josh Hazlewood near his base price despite the player not being a popular T20 cricketer. From then, Josh has become a superb T20 bowler and has increased the value of his stocks in IPL.
Matt Henry could also follow a similar route. He has the skills to do well in the shortest format of the game. It could be down to Stephen Fleming to identify this and bring him to CSK.
