In the past, we have seen players decline a retention offer from a franchise. In the coming years, we could see this more often. Before the next campaign, as well, there could be some players who might want to play for a different franchise. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three Mumbai Indians cricketers who could decline retention before the IPL 2025 Auctions.

1) Jasprit Bumrah

Bumrah is the next in line to become the Indian skipper in at least one of the formats. Therefore, being a skipper in the IPL is something that is a minimum for a player of his stature.

Bumrah is the best bowler in the world right now. IPL captaincy must come to him naturally. Also, he would like to challenge himself in a different environment. All of this could happen if he leaves MI and joins a different team. With Hardik in the team, Bumrah might not get captaincy. Hence, he could leave the side.

2) Suryakumar Yadav

SKY is one of the Mumbai Indians cricketers who could decline retention before the IPL 2025 Auctions. Like with Bumrah, even SKY is capable of being a captain elsewhere. In fact, he might be even desperate for it.

The best Indian T20 batter right now, SKY deserves a chance as a skipper. This will also help him create a legacy in the IPL. Hence, SKY could look for opportunities in other teams.

3) Rohit Sharma

Multiple instances have indicated that Rohit Sharma is unhappy with the Mumbai Indians management. Even his fans were left unhappy with the way the captaincy saga was handled.

Rohit can operate for a few more years as a captain. If that is not happening at Mumbai, he will surely have options in other franchises. Hence, Rohit could decline the retention offer from Mumbai Indians.
