1) John Wright (2000 to 2005)

John Wright is one of the left-handed opening batters who became Team India Head Coach. In the history of Indian cricket, John Wright holds a crucial role. He was the first foreigner to coach the Indian Team. He was at the helm between 2000 and 2005, a period that was tough for the men in blue.

Wright brought a structure and helped India compete for trophies. He also brought in some famous wins for India, especially in Tests. Later, Wright also got coaching opportunities in the IPL.

2) Gary Kirsten (2008 to 2011)

Gary Kirsten took over the Indian Team after the win in the 2007 T20 World Cup. The agenda and objective for Gary was doing well in the 2011 ODI World Cup, after the disappointing run in the 2007 ODI World Cup.

The former South African opener was on target as he led India to an ODI World Cup win after a gap of 28 years. Under him, India developed a solid squad for all the formats. 3) Gautam Gambhir (appointed in 2024)

Gautam Gambhir was recently appointed as India’s Head Coach. As per reports, his contract runs until the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Gambhir will have a lot of challenges while coaching the Indian squad. A lot of seniors are in the last few years of their careers. Many youngsters will come through, as well. India has to win trophies under him despite these challenges.
