The Indian selectors have shown some clarity in recent weeks about the selection of the T20I squad. Therefore, we can expect them to come down hard on a few cricketers who are not performing well. They could also realize their previous mistakes and remove cricketers who do not suit the combination of the T20I setup. On that note, here, we take a look at three Indians who could be dropped after the India-New Zealand T20I Series.

1) Yuzvendra Chahal

It has been a while since Yuzvendra Chahal has done well for India in T20Is. Earlier, too, he was expensive but he used to pick wickets often. However, his wicket-taking ability has come down drastically right now.

On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav is growing in confidence with each game. Washington Sundar is also freezing the No.7 spot in the playing XI. The likes of Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja would further add competition for the spinners’ spot in the team. Hence, Chahal might be dropped for the next series.

2) Deepak Hooda

Deepak Hooda is also one of the Indians who could be dropped after the India-New Zealand T20I Series. Yes, Deepak did play well against Sri Lanka but he has not been consistent. Moreover, he is anyways not suited for the finisher’s role in a T20I squad. Ideally, Deepak would slot in at No.3 or No.4 and take on the spinners.

That said, both spots are occupied in the team right now. Moreover, with Washi doing well both with the bat and the ball, the chances of Deepak are looking slim. If Sanju Samson comes in as the finisher, Deepak might lose his spot.

3) Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill has been the best batter for India in 2023, till now. However, that has only been in the ODI format. He is really struggling in T20Is.

With Prithvi Shaw waiting on the bench and Ruturaj Gaikwad searching for more opportunities, the management might take a call to save Gill for ODIs and Tests. Therefore, he could lose his spot.
