It has not even been one year since the 2023 ODI World Cup started. Team India has moved on from quite a few cricketers. A few of them are very far away from the squad. They are sure to not play in the ICC 2025 Champions Trophy, as well. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of three Indians who played in the 2023 ODI World Cup but are not near to the ODI squad now.
1) R Ashwin
R Ashwin got a chance to be a part of the squad as a late thought. India needed a quality right-arm off-spinner and Ashwin was given a chance. He even played in the first game at Chennai.
However, Team India is now invested in Washington Sundar. He has been getting consistent games and he would be a sure-shot inclusion in the team if there is a vacancy for a right-arm offie.
2) Ishan Kishan
Ishan Kishan is one of the Indians who played in the 2023 ODI World Cup but is not near the ODI squad now. Shubman Gill was down with fever and hence, Ishan had to play the first few matches in the World Cup.
However, after the World Cup, due to controversial reasons, Ishan was dropped from the setup. He also did not have a great IPL 2024. Now, he is set to return to the domestic games. He will hope to make a comeback soon.
3) Shardul Thakur
Shardul Thakur was doing well in ODIs and hence, he got a chance in the team. Also, since he gave some batting depth, he also played in the first few matches ahead of Mohammed Shami.
After Hardik Pandya’s exit, Shami came into the side and Shardul had to spend time on the bench. With India trying new faces, Shardul is yet to return to the ODI setup.
