Team India will play in the Asian Games 2023, soon. Of course, considering the World Cup is about to start, we will have a second-string squad represent the nation at the Asian Games. Interestingly, this T20 squad has some players who might lose their IPL contracts soon. On that note, here, we take a look at three Indians in the Asian Games 2023 squad who might be released by their franchises before IPL 2024.
1) Rahul Tripathi – Sunrisers Hyderabad
Rahul Tripathi did well in his first season at SRH. However, he struggled to score runs in the last season. It was one of the main reasons why SRH could not do well with their batting in IPL 2023.
Since then, Rahul has failed to do well domestically, as well. Even in the regional T20 competitions, he was not his usual self. Considering he earns INR 8.5 Cr at SRH, he could be released.
2) Akash Deep – Royal Challengers Bangalore
Akash Deep is one of the Indians in the Asian Games 2023 squad who might be released by their franchises before IPL 2024. The West Bengal man replaced Shivam Mavi in the Asian Games squad.
Midway through IPL 2023, he was dropped from the RCB XI. He was inconsistent and leaked a lot of runs. Unless he has a good Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he could be released by RCB. Therefore, he is also on this list.
3) Deepak Hooda (Standby) – Lucknow Super Giants
Deepak Hooda, who is one of the standby players for the Asian Games, had a poor show in IPL 2023. He lost his place in the Indian Team after that.
Interestingly, despite being one of the very few century scorers for India in T20Is, he was also not selected for the main Asian Games squad. His career is going down and a further setback could come in the form of a release by LSG ahead of IPL 2024.
