BCCI recently announced the squad for Asian Games 2023. The Indian Team will be led by Ruturaj Gaikwad. Since the seniors and regulars will be a part of the ODI setup for the ODI World Cup 2023, it will be a great opportunity for the fringe players to make a statement. That said, a few players were unlucky to miss out on the event. On that note, here, we take a look at three Indian players unlucky to miss out on the Asian Games squad.

1) Varun CV

The Tamil Nadu spinner’s form was good in IPL 2023. He exhibited his skills to maintain control while also producing his variations to trick the batters.

India needs spinners in the T20 setup who can control the leakage of runs. Also, it would be an advantage to have a spinner who could bowl in the powerplay. Therefore, it is ideal that BCCI could have tried out Varun in the Asian Games squad.

2) Deepak Hooda

Deepak Hooda was named in the ‘Standby’ List for Asian Games 2023. Not long ago, he was one of the cricketers who was set to occupy a permanent role in the Indian T20I squad.

IPL 2023 form has not helped Deepak Hooda. However, considering he was okay when he played for India, the selectors should have had him at least in the main squad. That would have given him a lot of confidence. Hence, he is one of the Indian players unlucky to miss out on the Asian Games squad.

3) Nitish Rana

Rana is a player who has improved a lot in recent times. Leadership at KKR has also made him a more mature character on the field.

Considering he is a left-hander and is experienced to play at No.3 or No.4, Rana would have been a good option for the Indian Team. However, he was unlucky to miss the opportunity.
