3 foreigners who could surprisingly become captains in IPL 2025

Not many expected Faf du Plessis to become a captain in IPL 2022. However, RCB appointed him and he also did well. Similarly, a few other teams could consider an out-of-the-box captaincy choice. Here, we take a look at the list of three foreigners who could surprisingly become captains in IPL 2025.

1) David Miller

Despite his age, Faf du Plessis did well both as a skipper and as a batter in the last three editions of IPL. Taking a cue from this, a few other franchises could follow a similar template. It is not always that you have to look at the future.

In this regard, with his wealth of experience in this format, Miller can be a top captaincy choice. He is a left-handed finisher, something that is very rare to find. Hence, he can be a player in all the matches and hence, a captain, as well.

2) Steve Smith

Steve Smith is one of the foreigners who could surprisingly become captains in IPL 2025. He has not played IPL in the last few seasons. Even from the Australian T20I Team, he has been dropped.

However, in the recent MLC 2024, he led his team to the trophy. He did that under the guidance of Ricky Ponting. The new Punjab Kings coach might try again for this combination. Hence, it is not a surprise that Smith will take up the armband in IPL 2025.

3) Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes does not have a long contract with the ECB. Considering his recent injury-woes, he might start to prioritize the franchise leagues. Hence, he could consider captaincy in the IPL.

A few teams could be interested in this if he is available. With the Impact Player rule, his bowling is not very necessary. Hence, Stokes has a chance as a captain in IPL 2025.
