As per reports, LSG is likely to release KL Rahul. The franchise will have to search for a new skipper. There are not a lot of domestic options available. Hence, some overseas candidates could come into the picture. There are quite a few options available in this regard. Here, we take a look at the list of three foreigners LSG could target as skipper for IPL 2025 if KL Rahul leaves the outfit.
1) Aiden Markram
With the kind of overseas talent stacked at SRH, Aiden Markram is likely to be released. This is despite SRH’s sister franchise being led by Markram in the SA20 League. That said, there would be a lot of teams who might want to sign Markram for IPL 2025.
As a skipper, he is a proven candidate. As a batter, there is scope for improvement but he is more or less sorted. He is still young and would be a great option for the future. Hence, LSG could target him.
2) Nicholas Pooran
Pooran is one of the foreigners LSG could target as skipper for IPL 2025 if KL Rahul leaves the outfit. He is most likely to take up the job if KL Rahul leaves LSG.
Already for MI Emirates, Pooran has shown has mettle as a skipper. As a player, we all know how valuable he is. Therefore, considering his age and player value, Pooran will get the role of LSG captain.
3) Mitchell Marsh
LSG needs a top-order batter who can go after the bowling from the first over. Mitchell Marsh is exactly that kind of batter. He would need to prove his captaincy skills further and an IPL job could help him in that.
Of course, fitness and availability issues could be there. Nevertheless, if LSG is looking at the future, he would be the ideal player and captain to invest in.
