The BCCI contracts are a good indication of the roadmap for the Indian Cricket Team. With the 2023 ODI World Cup, a few eras would be coming to an end. There would be an obvious eye on the future of the squad. Therefore, certain cricketers might miss out on their contracts next year, which basically means that their time with Team India might come to an end. Here, we take a look at three currently contracted Indian players who might lose their BCCI contracts next year.
1) Shikhar Dhawan
Despite some turbulence in the top order a few months ago, the management stuck with the current combination. Shikhar Dhawan was not given a chance.
Considering his age and the diminishing returns from his bat, Dhawan could miss out on his contract. While Yashasvi Jaiswal is already in the picture, B Sai Sudharsan could also enter the fray to fill the position of a left-hander in the top order.
2) Cheteshwar Pujara
Cheteshwar Pujara is one of the currently contracted Indian players who might lose their BCCI contracts next year. Pujara has already made one comeback but it could be hard to make one more.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has started his career on a good note. He is likely to play with Rohit Sharma at the top while Shubman Gill will play at No.3. Gill is the future of the team and he is unlikely to move from this slot. Hence, Pujara’s services might not be needed from now.
3) Deepak Hooda
It is more of a form issue for Deepak Hooda. After his poor show in IPL 2023, he lost his place in the Indian Team. Now, he could lose his contract as well.
Tilak Varma is likely to get a contract next year. He has had a fine start to his career. Nevertheless, Deepak could still have a chance if he does well in domestic tournaments.
