With India being the host, it’s fair to say that they will be the hot favourites to win the tournament. One of the areas that they would be looking to strengthen is the keeper’s department. Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul have missed a lot of cricket due to injury and their team would be looking to have backups as well. In this piece, we take a look at 2 young Indian wicket-keepers that might be in contention for the World Cup:

Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson can be one among the young Indian wicket-keepers that might be in contention for the World Cup. The batter has been the part of T20I setup but hasn’t been able to make the cut into the ODI side. However, he finally has been called into the team for the West Indies series. He has also been a great keeper and has performed reasonably well for India whenever he got the opportunity and therefore he can be the ideal choice. Also, his ability to bat at any position could come in handy for the team. In the 11 games so far, he has scored 330 runs at an average of 66 to go with 2 fifties.

Jitesh Sharma

Another young Indian wicket-keeper that might be in contention for the World Cup is Jitesh Sharma. The Punjab Kings wicketkeeper has been sensational in the last two IPL seasons and has grabbed the eyeballs of many. The Vidarbah keeper has been scoring runs consistently both in the domestic circuit as well as the IPL. His ability to strike the ball cleanly and finish the game for his team impeccably is something that makes him unique.
