Out of the six retentions, a minimum of one retention has to be an uncapped player. This uncapped player could either be retained directly or via the RTM card. While some teams such as Mumbai Indians have fine options, squads such as RCB and KKR already have a player in mind for this slot. However, some franchises could find it hard to make use of the sixth retention. On one hand, they might consider a few uncapped players not to be worth INR 4 Crores, at the same time, they could waste the RTM Card on a player at the auctions. On that note, here, we take a look at the list of two teams which could struggle to do the mandatory uncapped retention.
1) Rajasthan Royals
Yes, Sandeep Sharma is a top option for the franchise. However, it is not sure if he could be worth INR 4 Cr, especially with the auctions having a plethora of young Indian pacers. Hence, RR might not invest in him before the auctions.
At the auctions, though, Sandeep’s rate depends on the dynamics and we cannot predict it now. Tanush Kotian is one decent option RR can consider in this regard, though.
2) Sunrisers Hyderabad
SRH is one of the teams which could struggle to do the mandatory uncapped retention. With Nitish Reddy winning his India cap, SRH will find it hard to retain an uncapped player before the auctions. They retained two uncapped players before the last Mega Auctions.
Abdul Samad will still be an option for the franchise. Just like we mentioned with Sandeep, Abdul’s rate will depend on the auction dynamics. The advantage for SRH is that they can retain Mayank Markhande. However, the franchise might want a more experienced spinner like Yuzvendra Chahal for the side.
