Co-hosts recently announced their squad for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup. The last two editions were disappointing for them. Hence, they will be desperate to make amends at home. They certainly have the squad to do that. Nevertheless, the selectors had to take some tough decisions before arriving at the final squad. On that note, here, we take a look at two players unlucky to miss out on the West Indies squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Before that, here is a look at the squad that has been selected.
West Indies squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup:Â Rovman Powell (c), Alzarri Joseph, Johnson Charles, Roston Chase, Shimron Hetmyer, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Gudakesh Motie, Nicholas Pooran, Andre Russell, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd.
1) Kyle Mayers
Kyle Mayers opened the batting for West Indies in the recent tournaments. It is a shock that he does not find a place in the final squad. The selectors mentioned that they wanted an extra middle-order batter and hence picked Shimron Hetmyer.
While he played a few games last season for LSG, in IPL 2024, he has remained on the bench. This would have surely had an impact on his chances. If he had played a few games, he could have been in the picture.
2) Oshane Thomas
Oshane Thomas is one of the players unlucky to miss out on the West Indies squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Before that, here is a look at the squad that has been selected. The tall pacer was a part of the setup in the last few tournaments for West Indies.
He is a pure pacer and he has had to make way for Shamar Joseph, who is yet to make his T20I debut. It is possibly because of the newbie’s immense impact that he has been selected. Oshane is the unlucky one to miss out here.
