The deadline for IPL franchises to retain or release players is arriving soon. Usually, Indian players are in most demand during this phase. However, the dynamics have changed now. Even if a player is a part of the Indian Team, sometimes, he may not get a chance to be retained by a side. This could happen due to a variety of factors. On that note, here, we take a look at two Indians selected for the Australia T20I series but could be released before the IPL 2024 Auctions.

1) Mukesh Kumar – Delhi Capitals

Despite not having played in IPL, Mukesh Kumar was selected for the Indian T20I squad earlier this year. It was only in IPL 2023 that he made his debut. Although Mukesh was impressive in a few games, overall, the impact was not very great.

Considering he commands a huge salary, DC might consider releasing the player and buying him back at a lower price. The next few days might be crucial in this regard. If Mukesh Kumar gets a chance and does well for Team India, DC could be firm about their decision to retain him.

2) Washington Sundar – Sunrisers Hyderabad

Washington Sundar from Sunrisers Hyderabad is one of the Indians selected for the Australia T20I series but could be released before the IPL 2024 Auctions. The last two seasons have not been great for the talented all-rounder.

While fitness is the main reason, his form has also not been good. He was supposed to lead the spin attack but he has not been able to do that. His salary is in excess of INR 8 Cr. For an injury-prone cricketer, this is high. Also, SRH has players such as Mayank Markhande who can fill the gap in the spin department. They can hire some youngsters and groom them for the future. In this context, Sundar might be released by SRH.
