Courtesy of the Indian Premier League, many cricketers gain experience on Indian pitches and use it for their respective nations. The 2023 ODI World Cup is happening in India. Hence, many of the former IPL cricketers are on board for visiting nations. Of course, a lot depends on their coaching credentials but IPL experience would also help these individuals. On that note, here, we take a look at two former Mumbai Indians cricketers who are batting coaches in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
1) JP Duminy – South Africa
JP Duminy is a part of the South African coaching staff for the 2023 ODI World Cup. After his retirement, the former all-rounder has taken up this profession and has been fairly good at it. He was also one of the coaches in the first edition of SA20.
Back during his playing time, Duminy enjoyed some good seasons in IPL. While he initially played for the Mumbai Indians, a chunk of his IPL time came about in Delhi. In fact, he was also the skipper of the side for many games. It will be interesting to see how the South African batters would perform under the guidance of JP Duminy.
2) Luke Ronchi – New Zealand
Luke Ronchi is a part of this list of former Mumbai Indians cricketers who are batting coaches in the 2023 ODI World Cup. One of the best wicket-keepers that the Kiwis have seen is Luke Ronchi. Interestingly, he first was a player of Australia and then made the move across the borders to New Zealand.
In IPL, Ronchi did not get to spend a lot of time. In the first edition in 2008 and in the next edition in 2009, he was a part of the Mumbai Indians setup. Later, he got released and did not get a concrete chance to prove his skills elsewhere.
